About Our CEO & Founder
Carl brings more than 25 years of experience in the financial industry, including 10 years of experience in wealth management and insurance. He graduated Summa Cum Laude with a bachelor's degree in finance from the University of Houston. Carl founded Carlson Financial after becoming frustrated with the lack of honesty and transparency he saw in the financial services industry. His goal was and continues to be to put the client's (and not the company's) interests first. He makes it his personal mission to maximize our clients' incomes while protecting and preserving their nest eggs. Carl is the featured financial resource for four TV stations and is a frequent speaker; covering an array of financial topics, issues, and opportunities for those nearing and in retirement. He and his wife, Kay Lyn, have been married for over 35 years and they have three children: Emily, Anna and Ethan.

Mike Gilman, President & Financial Advisor
Leveraging his experience as a CPA, Mike enjoys finding solutions and simplifying complex issues to help clients maximize their retirement income. He brings his experience and passion for financial planning into his relationships with clients so you can feel confident you are getting the most out of the hard work and planning you have done to prepare for retirement. From the first time he met Carl, Mike immediately connected with the standard of excellence, integrity, and transparency that Carlson Financial continuously upholds. Mike has a broad perspective due to his extensive experience over the last 25 years in the Accounting and Finance industry. He began his career in public accounting before transitioning into Corporate Finance with Capital One, and most recently, Head of Mortgage Finance with SunTrust (now Truist). Born and raised in Richmond, Virginia, Mike met his wife Hollie in elementary school. They've been married for over 24 years and have three children, Jake, Holden, and Casey. He enjoys spending time with his family, preferably on the golf course, and watching UVA Basketball. Go Hoos!
